Amazing Grace & The Giants

Amazing Grace & The Giants

When his ship ‘The Greyhound’ took refuge in Inishowen from a violent storm, slave-trader John Newton believed God had delivered him to safety. Penning the hymn, Amazing Grace, Newton reformed and pushed for the abolition of slavery. It isn’t hard to believe a calm day in Ireland, a beautiful setting like this could change the course of a lifetime.

Amazing Grace & the Giants

Day 1. How sweet the sound of friendly chatter on a coach bound for Caernarfon

and overnight stay at the Celtic Royal Hotel *** The hotel has a lift.

Day 2. An early departure to catch the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin.

Breakfast will be served on board ship.

Back on solid ground and through the counties of Meath

and Louth to Co. Fermanagh and Buncrana where the

Inishowen Gateway Hotel *** will be our home for the next 3 nights.

Day 3. Wild and stunning the Inishowen Peninsula is dappled with Celtic crosses,

castles and ancient forts kissed by white sandy beaches,

and fortressed by dramatic cliffs and sea-surged rock.

 We’ll travel the scenic route,

meandering along twists and turns of a road that passes panoramic views of Lough Swilly,

the Atlantic and Lough Foyle, calling at Malin Head,

the most northerly point in Ireland.

Next we visit fabulous Derry for a walking tour

around the only completely walled city in Ireland.

Day 4. Today we explore Donegal, beginning with a trip through

the Glenveagh National Park

situated in the shadow of Mount Errigal.

Bordered by the Atlantic on three sides,

spectacular sea views are never far away on this dramatic stretch of coastline.

Day 5. Michael Palin described the train journey from Londonderry to Coleraine

as ‘one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world’.

Starting at the 6th Century riverside setting of Derry,

the train glides through tunnels and over bridges,

leading to unspoiled beaches, seaside villages, and past Binevenagh Mountain

on the way to Ireland’s earliest site of settlement, Coleraine.

Next stop is the Giant’s Causeway where world-famous basalt pillars have created

a unique geological feature  that never fails to impress those who visit.

Enjoy an optional bus ride with audio guide

telling the fascinating story of the Causeway’s creation

before departure for Belfast where The Park Avenue Hotel ****

welcomes us for the next two nights.

Day 6. A great day exploring Belfast’s rich history and vibrant culture begins

with a two and a half hour open-top bus guided tour of the city.

There will be free time to appreciate the city’s buildings,

 monuments and heritage centres

 before visiting the Titanic Experience

to learn more about the ill-fated liner’s links to Northern Ireland’s capital city.

Day 7. Scenic journey to Waterford and Dooley’s hotel *** where we will rest overnight.

Day 8. An early morning ferry with breakfast on board departs for Pembroke,

and the coach delivers us home to the West Country and surrounding area.

*Please Note: It is not possible to use the SwanTourer on day 6.

We use a coach supplied by a local operator
