The mountainous Bregenzerwald is perfectly framed by Lake Constance and by the lush Alpine valleys of Austria and Switzerland. Day 1. Ferry crossing and travel to our overnight hotel in Forbach the Mercure Forbach Centre *** The hotel has a lift.
Day 2. Continue onto our hotel where we spend the next 5 nights, the Hotel Weisses Kreuz **** situated in the medieval city of Feldkirch that borders Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Day 3. Today we travel to Rheineck where we take the mountain railway to Welzenhausen.
At the top you have a fantastic view over the whole of Lake Constance and the Swiss Mountains of Appenzell.
We then travel on the Appenzeller Bahnen Railway, down to the Rhine Valley of Altstatten. Love chocolate? Good, because we visit Hohenems where we will take a tour of the Fenkart family Schlosskaffee sampling some of the delicious handmade chocolate treats.
Day 4. Its not all about chocolate this week, the delicate taste of cheese is on the agenda today with a full day excursion through the Bregenzerwald ending with a visit to a traditional cheesemaker. Then take the little Wälderbähnle Railway from Bezau to Schwarzenberg before traversing the breathtaking Bodelpass.
Day 5. We have a local bus to take us on a guided tour of historic Feldkirch and entrance to chattenburg Castle Museum.
This quaint castle resides on a hillside becoming a most beautiful focal point to the area.
The afternoon is then free for you to relax and explore Feldkirch, making your way through the historic city, following cobblestone roads and finding elegant water features
Day 6. After a delicious breakfast, we will then head to the old city of Constance, cross the lake on the ferry to Meersburg and visit Salem Castle.
Well stop in Hagnau for included wine tasting before returning to Feldkirch.
Day 7. We say goodbye to Feldkirch and start our journey home with an overnight stay at the Mercure Forbach Centre, Forbach ***
Day 8. Its time to hop onto the ferry once more, crossing back to England, which is where we shall continue on our journey back to home.
